Camper Activities
whoa
oh hey everyone it’s Nate here today I’m
going to show you a little experiment so
you can grow your very own rainbow let’s
get to it okay so what you’re gonna need
is an assortment of all different
colored markers now I would use markers
not sharpies it works a lot better
you’re going to need a paper towel and
two cups of water probably just over
halfway full okay we’re gonna move these
to the side and the next step is to
color in the corners of your paper towel
so I’m gonna start with pink like so and
then going to continue to do the colors
all the way through there
you might speed the video up for this
part okay now you’ve put all the colors
on that you want we’re gonna double this
piece over like so and then fold it like
that and then comes the next step put
that in front there goes all the markers
I’m gonna put these here and I’m gonna
put this one
in so it goes into the water then the
other end goes into the water here and
then you let it sit and let it grow
you can see the rainbows growing slowly
up that way and again on this side as
well if you continue to leave it
eventually it’ll grow all the way over
the top let’s leave it for a bit and
come back whoa look at that now I’ve
left it for about five to ten minutes
and it’s slowly getting there it’s gonna
connect you have to be patient with this
one it takes a little little while so
you can put it down and come back to it
every five minutes and see how it’s
going that’s pretty much it guys I hope
you enjoyed it and I’ll see you next time
Hi, Detective Scarlett S’more here. It’s nice to meet you Camp Ooch & Camp Trillium campers! I am a world famous camp detective, here with my partner Inspector Gouda and we are here to introduce you the world of detection and inspection.
We have heard so much about you, and how great you are at defeating bad guys, so we thought you would be great additions to our Camp detective Squad: S’more Solving.
How do you join the squad? It’s easy. Come back here every week to get the low-down on one of our cases and help us solve it.
We will also have classes on how to do essential detective skills like finger printing, designing disguises, creating detective equipment etc!
We am looking forward to working with you all. Stay alert & vigilent- Detective S’more
And inspector Gouda, signing off!
Welcome Camp Detective Squad. Detective Scarlett S’more here! Today we have a case coming from Chef Tater who is the best camp chef in Ontario! Hi Chef Tater welcome to S’more Solving what can we help you with today?
Hi Detective S’more it’s good to see you. I hope you can help me! I was just polishing my golden tot trophies, you know for making the best tater tots in Canada, and I went to put on a fresh batch of tots, my trophies always make me hungry. But when I went to take my recipe out of the safe it was GONE! I couldn’t believe it. That recipe has been in my family for generations. The tots it made were so golly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the golden sheen on them could rival the 24K gold on my trophies. I’ve been around the world, seen the Taj Mahal and the Mona Lisa, but no work of art could compare to my tots.
Alright chef take a deep breath. I have tried your tots and I will do everything I can to get that recipe back. When was the last time you saw it?
I made a fresh batch of tots on the weekend to share with my friend Hungry Hank. He loves my tots but does not cook. I make him tots every week, there is no need for him to steal my recipe.
Interesting. Has anyone ever asked for the recipe in the past?
It is an unspoken rule in tot frying that you never ask for a recipe. Everyone has a secret ingredient that they will never reveal. Although there is another chef, Sam Spud who tried to get a peek at my recipe a few years ago but I stopped him and have been more careful, keeping it locked up ever since.
Sam Spud, huh? More like Shady Spud. I suppose we should call him in for questioning. Anyone else you think might be interested in the recipe?
Mash’em Molly is another Potato chef who has won the golden masher 3 years in a row, but has recently started frying tots. She is a fierce competitor and would love to get her buttery hands on my recipe.
Thanks for your help Chef Tater. I will call you back when we find your recipe.
Whew, this case is wide open, so many suspects. What do you think inspector?
I think we can’t know more until we question Sam Spud and Mash’em Mortimer
Good call, let’s give our friend Mash’em Mortimer a call.
Hi Mortimer, how are you doing today? My name is Detective Scarlett S’more and I am investigating the theft of a stolen recipe.
Oh no! Who stole a recipe? What recipe was stolen? Did someone get my mashed potato recipe?
No, it was Chef Tot’s recipe.
Oh, well that’s a relief. He is my biggest competition at this year’s Spudlympics. His tots are so delicious with just the nicest little bit of spice. I am a little relieved to hear he lost his recipe, although I am obviously very sad and not guilty at all.
We will decide who’s guilty Mort. Where were you on Sunday morning?
I was where I always am Sunday morning. Sleeping in, and walking my cat around the neighborhood. You can ask any of my neighbors.
Thank you for your help. We will be in touch.
Alright inspector, its Sam Spud’s turn
Hi Sam Spud, its inspector Gouda. I want to ask you a few questions.
Of course inspector I would love to answer your questions.
Have you ever heard of Chef Tater?
Of course I know chef tater. He has stolen the golden tot from me 4 years in a row with his soggy spuds. Just because he puts a little bit of cayenne pepper in his tots the judges love him,
Where were you during the morning on Sunday?
I was down at the docks picking up a load of the best potatoes that’ve ever been growed. That’s when the PEI potatoes get in, you can’t beat a spud from the bright red mud.
Chef Tater’s recipe has gone missing. Do you know anything about this?
Someone stole chef taters recipe? The only person who I could think would steal it is a judge, they’re the only people who seem to like his tots. Or Mash’em Mort, he doesn’t know anything about making a good tater tot, but I heard she stole his Mashed Potato recipe so I wouldn’t put it past him. It’s a competitive world this potato cooking world.
Thank you Chef Tater. We will be in touch if we have any more questions.
Well, I don’t think we need to ask anyone else questions. We have found our thief! Detective Squad, send an email to registration@ooch.org with your theory for whodunit and how you know!
Hey everyone!
Today we’re going to be getting messy and making one of my favourite things, Oobleck. Not just ordinary Oobleck- Unicorn Oobleck. Let’s get started.
If you want to make 3 colours like me, you will need one bowl per colour. In this bowl here, I’m going to make purple.
Here I have a 1/4 cup of cornstarch and to that I’m going to add about 1-2 tablespoons of water. I’m going to add my food colouring to the water first before I pour it in.
Here I have two drops of blue and two drops of red.
(Christina pours water mixed with food colouring to her cornstarch. Christina mixes coloured water with the cornstarch).
You can always add more water as you go.
(Christina adds more water to her oobleck).
Mix it all up, until you get this really cool consistency. At first it’s going to be very hard to stir. You might need to ask for some help.
Your Oobleck should be stiff when you try to squeeze it, and it should run through your fingers when you let it go.
I have my other colours all ready to go, so all that’s left to do is mix them all together. HAVE FUN!
Hi everyone, it’s Nate here from Camp Ooch. I hope you’re all doing well. I am going to do a little instructional video on how to make a dog by doing origami. I’m just going to share with you what it’s going to look like. It will look like something similar to this. I will share this with you afterwards, so don’t worry if you can’t see this while I’m doing the instructional video.
Ok guys, so all you really need for this is a piece of paper. Now when you start most origami it is a square piece of paper, but I’m going to show you how to transform a rectangular piece into a square piece. It’s super simple.
Ok so now what we need to with a rectangular piece of paper is you grab one corner and you fold it across to the other side, making a triangle. Get this tip all the way down to there. Make a triangle. Flatten that piece out. What we are going to do is cut along this edge here. We have some scissors – you also need scissors, I forgot to mention that. Cut along this line here and voila. We have a square piece of paper, ready to go.
Ok so first step is to actually fold this piece of paper in half to make a triangle. Then we’re going to fold that in half again for the second step, just to get that crease down the middle. We’re going to open it back up. We’re going to fold, one ear down like this to make a nice little triangle. Fold another ear down like that to make another nice little triangle. Then we’re going to lift this up here to make the nose. Next step would be to decorate it however you’d like. You can colour it in. Mine’s a pretty bland piece of paper so I’m going to make some eyes. Then you can make a nose down here. Super simple! You can decorate it, maybe put some spots or some different colours on it – up to you. Simple dog origami.
our second episode of making our
favorite airplanes today we’re going to
be starting with the same four that we
started with on our last segment so
we’re going to be folding the piece of
paper in half making sure that the
corners line up and then pressing right
across now I do find that if you focus
on this fold I’m making sure that it’s
nice and smooth it will produce a better
paper airplane from there you’re going
to unfold the piece of paper and you’re
going to take the bottom corner and
you’re going to fold it so that this
lines up with that Center fold that you
created and then you’re going to do the
same on the other side now I know you’re
thinking this looks exactly like the
other paper airplane that we created
last time but just you wait the end
result will be different so again making
sure that these folds are nice increased
you can use your fingernails or a
marketer roller for those edges whatever
works best for you from there we are
going to make that next fold again
lining up and a piece of paper with that
Center fold going to the top bringing
that corner down to meet that fold that
you just made and again I always like to
kind of fix
the foals at the front here before I
actually press down on this top fold
over here to make sure that everything
is lining up nicely now this is where
it’s going to differ a bit we’re now
going to flip that piece of paper so
that you see that full and we’re going
to fold it back so you have this fold on
the outside now then you’re going to
fold down at an angle so that this piece
of paper is folded on a slight angle
you’re going to flip the piece of paper
over you’re going to match that on the
other side now it will create an
interesting fold at the frontier as I’m
sure you can already start to see so
what you can do is you can decide
whether you want that nose to be pointed
down or not
I say yes so what I do from here is I
use my finger to push and then come
underneath push that through and then
follow that fold through
so again so once I had folded this down
all I did was I pushed my finger under
here and push it up and then fold it
down from the top just to create that
nice bold I’m gonna run my finger over
the top and there you have it so from
the side you’ll notice that the angle is
going to be different from our first one
and same with the nose so it’s going to
create a different flight path for this
paper airplane that’s the one side and
that’s the other now once again this you
can do with just a simple piece of paper
and a half by 11
but if you want I always like to add a
little bit of detail this time because
we can see the wings I would likely add
some more more detail over here I
usually like geometric shapes but you
can also make it camp themed you can use
your favorite colors you can do fun
emojis you can really do whatever you
would like to make this paper paper
airplane your very own now my next
challenge to you would be now that you
have two different styles of paper
airplanes keep them both and try throw
both them at the same from the same spot
and see which one goes farther which one
flies higher and which one has
the straightest flight path meaning
which one doesn’t do any loops or curves
when it is set into motion so you can
keep decorating this as much as you
would like I think that the more color
the more creative it looks and I think
that when you have a creative design the
airplane is just that much more fun to
fly feel free to send in your different
designs to registration at work I’d love
to see some of your creations and if you
have a video that you also want to share
that’d be pretty cool so I’m going to
keep adding detail to mine and I
encourage you to do the same and I hope
to hear and see some of your responses
very soon happy crafting
